Flemming has spent most of his life training. For many years he raced as an elite cyclist. Today he is a masters runner, mostly at 5000 and 10,000 metres. Between those two chapters he has learned a lot about what training does to the body, and how much of the result depends on what happens between sessions.

From the bike to the track

Elite cycling is an endurance sport in its purest form. It takes many hours, a big aerobic engine and the discipline to keep training week after week. Years at that level teach you how far the body can be pushed. They also teach you that pushing harder is not always the answer.

Flemming has also coached others. While he was still racing, he spent some years as a coach at Brøndby Cykle Club, working mostly with the club’s young riders aged 14 to 20. Along the way he took courses run by Danmarks Cykle Union, the Danish Cycling Federation, and earned the coaching certificates DCU Træner 1 and 2.

Running at 5000 and 10,000 metres asks for something a little different. The races are short enough to need real speed and long enough to need a strong aerobic base. Every stride lands on the ground, so running loads the legs differently from cycling. Recovery and strength matter more, and that is especially true as a masters athlete, when the years make rest and smart planning matter even more.

Going from one sport to the other means Flemming has had to rethink his own training. He couldn't just copy what used to work. He had to look at what the body needs now.

How that shapes his coaching

  • Quality over endless volume. Endurance sport shows how much training the body can take, but more is not automatically better.
  • Strength and balance belong in the plan. Runners and cyclists often skip them. As we get older they become more important, not less.
  • Recovery is part of the programme. Hard days only work if the easy days are truly easy.
  • The plan fits your life. Your plan starts from where you are, what you enjoy and how much time you actually have.

Every session gets looked at

Flemming coaches through the Everfit training app. You get your programme in the app and log your sessions there, and Flemming personally reviews every session you log. That means the plan can change based on how your training is actually going, not on a schedule written weeks ago. If a week went badly, you were tired or something hurt, the next week can be adjusted.

Coaching suits runners and cyclists who want structure instead of guesswork, whether you are getting back into training or want to get more out of the time you already spend.

See coaching

Coaching covers training programmes and follow-up only and is not medical care. Check with your doctor before starting hard training, especially if you have a health condition.
